Man believed he was saving a dog from the freezing water, but in the end, he realized it was a wolf

Construction workers in Pärnu, Estonia, noticed an animal struggling to escape the icy waters of the Pärnu River. At first, they thought it was a dog in trouble, so they decided to help.

Rando Kartsepp, Robin Sillamäe, and Erki Väli worked together to pull the animal to safety. After getting it out of the water, they wrapped it in a towel to warm it up.

One of the workers mentioned that the animal was heavy, and they had to carry it up a slope to reach safety.

They quickly called the rescue service and took the animal to a vet for care. The vets noticed the animal was unusually calm and weak, likely due to low blood pressure.

At first, the vets weren’t sure what kind of animal they were dealing with, but a local hunter later explained that it was actually a wolf.

The Estonian animal welfare group later shared on social media that the wolf had been exhausted and frozen from being in the cold water for too long. A young man quickly grabbed a towel to help, and the wolf was placed in a car to warm up while they contacted the animal protection organization.

The group reflected on how they handled the situation, unsure at first whether it was a dog or a wolf in need.

EUPA, the animal protection association, expressed their gratitude to everyone involved in the rescue and were happy the situation ended well, especially thanking the workers who saved the animal.
