For those fortunate enough to have experienced the enchanting beauty of Bali, it’s no secret that the island has a notable issue with stray dogs. These wandering canines can often be spotted in towns and villages.
While the government takes measures to prevent rabies outbreaks and address the situation, local shelters and compassionate citizens have stepped in to offer these homeless pups a chance at a better life.
Bali, a place known for its Hindu faith, holds Yudhishthira, a revered figure who ascended to heaven alongside his faithful dog, in high regard. Many Hindus believe that caring for or adopting dogs can lead to heavenly rewards.
This belief is wonderfully exemplified in the heartwarming story of Rico Soegiarto, a kind-hearted individual who encountered a husky in a state of severe malnourishment and distress on the island’s streets.
When 26-year-old Rico stumbled upon this forlorn pup in Denpasar, he couldn’t help but notice her bald patches and emaciated form, her skin clinging to her bones.
“I don’t know what was so special about her”, Rico shared with Bored Panda. “It’s about the heart and feeling. I found her when I was on the way back home from work, she was on the side of the road.”
Despite her pitiable condition, the husky’s striking blue eyes shone with a glimmer of hope, and Rico knew he couldn’t leave her to her fate. He decided to rescue the neglected canine and embarked on a journey of nurturing and healing.
This included grooming, veterinary care, and nutritious meals.
“She loves getting petted and eats plenty of cookies!” Rico chuckled. “And she is so sociable that she worries me sometimes. There are many thieves in Bali.”
Now, the husky is the picture of vitality and strength, boasting a lush and glossy coat that matches her dazzling blue eyes. She has grown deeply attached to Rico and expresses her gratitude by showering her savior with affection. Rico gave her the fitting name “Hope”.
One year after Rico’s fateful encounter with the emaciated husky on the streets, Hope is utterly unrecognizable. She has transformed from a starving and forlorn dog into a radiant Husky, showcasing her remarkable journey from despair to a life filled with love and care.
